There is such a thing as a free lunch!

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 automatically get universal free school meals. Parents and guardians are encouraged to apply for benefits-related free school meals when they enrol their child in school as this can help their child’s school to attract additional ‘pupil premium’ funding to support learning.

From Year 3 onwards, children whose parents are in receipt of any of the following benefits may be eligible for free school meals:

  • Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods)
  • Income Support (IS)
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance (IBSJA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (IRESA)
  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit, (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, that does not exceed £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – ( the payment you get for a further 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)

How to apply

You can apply for free school meals online!

Torbay Council have launched an online application form which can be completed via your computer, mobile phone or table device.  You can also download a printable version of the application form from their website if you prefer.

Fresh Ideas Feeding Minds

We are delighted to announce our own in-house catering service to provide healthy meals for all our children.

Our mission is to improve the health of our children through better eating habits and food education, inspiring the next generation into good lifelong eating habits.

Lunchtimes are an important part of the school day.  Healthy, nutritious, balanced school lunches can lead to better health and a better academic performance.

  • 70% of our meals are made from scratch
  • All our meat is Red Tractor
  • We only use free range eggs
  • We have meat free Mondays every week
  • We are working with Food for Life and The Soil Association to achieve a Bronze Award to recognise our commitment to healthy, balanced meals for our children.

We are able to give the children a choice of hot meals every day with a meat option and vegetarian option.  Sandwiches are available every day. For dessert, the children have the choice of a pudding or fresh fruit.

All lunches should be pre-booked through your My Child At School app (MCAS) and must be paid for in advance; with the option of ordering up to a half a term at a time. Meals are priced at £2.60 per day for Nursery and Y3 to Y6. This will rise to £2.75 from September 2024.

Meal orders for children (Reception to Year 2) who are entitled to Universal Free School meals or benefit-related free meals (FSM), will also need to be ordered at least 24 hours in advance through your account via the My Child At School app (MCAS).
